Hi, I’m Ben Ray.

I'm a multimedia journalist who produces, writes, anchors, and edits Here's What's Happening, a daily news explainer series that turns complex stories into 90-second context. Working solo, I handle every step from scripting to distribution across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and X. My work has earned 56M+ views and 118M+ impressions, reaching an audience of 389K+ followers at a 5.43% engagement rate.

My Approach

My approach is built on a simple idea: the news should feel human. Politics moves fast online, and context is usually the first casualty. I fill in what gets left out, the setup, the stakes, and what happened next, with tight sourcing and a commitment to political neutrality.

That instinct for clear storytelling comes from a background in screenwriting and filmmaking, where the whole job is deciding what a story needs and what it doesn't. I've spent years writing scripts and building narratives, and I bring that same eye to the news. The production side runs just as deep. I spent time as a weekend producer at iHeartMedia's NewsRadio 1110 KFAB, where I ran live shows, screened calls, coordinated interviews, and cut broadcasts into on-demand podcasts. I've also created and produced three comedy podcasts as creative director and editor. The result is journalism that informs without losing the things that make people actually want to watch.
